Algorand Foundation partners with UoPeople to provide scholarships for minority students

February 15th, 2022 - The Algorand Foundation is delighted to announce the collaboration with University of the People (UoPeople) to provide ten scholarships for students from underrepresented minorities or developing nations. UoPeople is the first non-profit, tuition-free, American, accredited online university. Their course offerings include Associate, Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes in English and Associate, Bachelor’s programs in Arabic.

“UNESCO estimates that by the year 2025, there will be nearly 100 million young people unable to find seats in traditional universities,” emphasizes Shai Reshef, President of UoPeople. “We believe that access to higher education is a basic right which promotes world peace and global economic development.” The University currently has m​​ore than 117,000 students enrolled from more than 200 countries and territories. Over 10,500 of these students are refugees. “The Algorand Foundation scholarships will be tremendously helpful to support our students with achieving their educational goals,” adds Reshef.

“The Algorand Foundation University Programme is delighted to support students with minority and developing nations backgrounds,” emphasizes Hugo Krawczyk, Principal Researcher at Algorand Foundation and Head of the ACE programme. “Algorand Foundation has a vision for an inclusive ecosystem that provides an opportunity for everyone to harness the potential of an equitable and truly borderless economy. Education is key to achieve this vision.”
