December 16th, 2021 - The Algorand Foundation today announces our partnership with Monash University to support the development of two applications, a blockchain-as-a-service application for academic credentialing and the development of a prototype for blockchain as a pharmaceutical supply chain provider. This exciting partnership with Monash University is part of the Foundation's ongoing efforts to support education and participation in blockchain technology and is supported through our multi-year 250M Algo Grant Program.

“The first project aims at exploring and developing a blockchain enabled trusted credential issuance and verification system,” explains Professor and Director of the Monash Blockchain Technology Centre Joseph Liu. “This will provide strong support to secure the education sector.”

“The second project explores the possibility of leveraging blockchain to provide a robust, transparent, and accountable pharmaceutical supply chain,” Liu continues. “This is expected to provide significant benefits including improving the auditing process, saving cost, and enhancing society’s confidence in the pharmaceutical logistics.”

“Monash University’s projects are exemplary for the wide variety of blockchain technology applications,” underlines Jason Lee, COO at Algorand Foundation. “This grant award helps support Monash University as they develop two unique blockchain use cases, a trusted credential issuance and verification system, and a robust, transparent, and accountable pharmaceutical supply chain, showcasing the value of blockchain technology. We are excited about the partnership with Monash University given their exceptional record in blockchain innovation.”

Monash Blockchain Technology Centre, established in 2019 by the Faculty of Information Technology, brings together world-leading expertise across Monash University to explore and develop the technology of blockchain — and create impact across different industrial and societal sectors. The centre develops new technologies to use in blockchain systems, introduce relevant blockchain topics into cross-faculty curriculums and provide targeted training in different sectors of industry.

The Algorand Foundation is committed to building a truly global blockchain ecosystem and our Grant and Development Award funding mechanisms have supported other education and research projects in academia such the Algorand Fintech Innovation Hub at the University of Cape Town.
