Algo Cleanup, a Grassroots, Community-led Project Receives Grant Award

Algorand Foundation

September 15th, 2021 - Having launched the Algorand Foundation Grant Program last year, we have received many submissions across the various grant categories who have been eager to participate and grow the Algorand ecosystem. We are delighted to announce that Algo Cleanup is the latest Grant recipient.

Algorand is committed to supporting green and social good initiatives and our grants program provides the perfect platform to support diverse projects including community led initiatives that support a cleaner and greener environment. Algo Cleanup is a grassroots initiative which makes cleaning up local communities simple and fun and has been awarded a grant to provide accessible resources to address littering, pollution, and water waste. Algo Cleanup will leverage Algorand’s powerful blockchain providing transparency with project donations, using AlgoExplorer’s API.

To keep the community engaged and reward them for participating, Algo CleanUp has started an NFT series, minted on Algorand, to encourage garbage collectors to share their images and artists to interpret them. By creating a positive impact in local communities it makes for a more receptive audience to learn more about Algorand and our commitment to the environment while being exposed to the technology behind the Algorand blockchain.

“Algorand provides a fast and secure blockchain making project transparency simple. Algorand’s commitment to being a carbon negative blockchain squarely aligns with environmentally focused projects. The grant award program affirms Algorand’s commitment to their ecosystem and the global community at large. It can’t be stated enough, Algorand is the future of finance. I’m honored to receive this grant and excited to contribute to the growth of this community while being a positive impact in communities around the world.” - Joe Sloan, Algo Cleanup Founder

Addie Wagenknecht, Head of Global Ecosystems and Technical Operations at the Foundation shared,  ‘Algorand is committed to and supports sustainable blockchain development. Algorand is now one of the world’s first carbon negative, layer-1, public blockchains. We’re excited to support grassroots projects such as Algo Cleanup through our Grants program and help them accelerate their mission for cleaner and greener local communities. Algorand provides the necessary transparency to build trust in the community. All donations can be tracked and viewed on a block explorer and are finalized in 4.5 seconds’.
