ACE-BRAIN (Blockchain Regulation And INnovation) is a collaboration between four academic institutions: Roma Tre University, Catholic University of the Sacred Heart of Milan, European University Institute, and Fondazione Ugo Bordoni. ACE-BRAIN leverages connections across the whole of the EU, collaborating with relevant communities of policymakers and developers through a series of initiatives in the entire EU territory.
Its mission includes promoting blockchain technology as a pillar of the future EU Single Market, as well as a foundation for a more democratic, resilient, and sustainable society in Europe and beyond. Specific research and education initiatives include:
- Addressing existing tensions between blockchain technologies, sector-specific regulatory frameworks, and cross-cutting legislation such as data protection and competition law
- Filling an existing gap in academic studies at the intersection of law, economics, engineering, and governance, thereby laying the foundations of an increasingly mature and cross-disciplinary approach to the study of “law as code”
- Bridging the divide between the blockchain developer community and the EU policy community
- Developing curricula at all levels of seniority (undergraduate, graduate, postgraduate, doctoral, post-doc, executive training) and a dedicated series of MOOC for global distribution
